We are Harambee Housing Co-operative Ltd.
Harambee Housing Co-op is a vibrant and welcoming multicultural community located in South Winnipeg near Pembina Highway and Abinojii Mikanah. Nestled among trees and natural greenery, Harambee offers families a peaceful, community-oriented place to call home, conveniently close to schools, transit, and shopping.
Founded in 1991 by members of Winnipeg’s local Black community, Harambee was created to address the need for accessible and affordable family housing. Guided by the spirit of “Harambee”— pulling all together—we proudly became Winnipeg’s first multicultural housing co-op.
Members actively participate in shaping our community through democratic decision-making and an elected Board of Directors. Shared spaces, including our on-site Recreation Centre, playground, and community garden plots, support a strong sense of connection and belonging. With the support of on-site management and dedicated volunteers, Harambee continues to thrive as a diverse, family-friendly community built on cooperation, respect, and mutual support.
The co-op has a total of 54 units composed of 38 three and four-bedroom townhomes and 16 two-bedroom coach homes with a variety of unique floor plans.
